Manchester Guest House

Custom Seamless Integration Custom Seamless Integration of guest house into custom home. Located in the Animas Valley north of Durango our client had a very nice custom home already. What they were lacking was garage space for their toys and sleeping space for guests. So with our help and the help of our architect, we designed a very nice custom garage/guest house to solve both issues. The new space will be finished to match the existing house and when we are done it will look like it belongs there. We are proud to complete design/build projects of all sizes and this one will another fun project!

Garrett Residence

High Quality/Small Footprint High Quality/Small Footprint. When the Garrett brothers found this large property west of Durango in Hesperus, they knew that is where they want to be. We will build 2 homes on the property, one for each brother. For the main home we once again partnered with Wind River Timber Frames for the frame. This will be a true timber frame and will show off Wind River’s incredible talent for joinery. Both of the houses prove that a very nice custom home can be on the smaller side too. Often choosing extremely high quality in a smaller footprint is the way to go. It is always fun to work with great clients and to help them see their vision come to fruition!

McDaniel Residence

Forever Custom Home We first met this couple back in 2019. At the time they weren’t sure if buying an existing house or building was the right choice. After looking they quickly discovered that in order to get the forever custom home they really wanted they needed to build. We worked together to hire an architect and started designing. Now, in 2023 we are starting the actual construction. We sure enjoy building these relationships with our clients. We enjoy every part of the design build process and it is fun to see our work take shape! Located in Timberdale Ranch subdivision outside of Bayfield, CO this will be a very nice custom home and detached garage. Great clients make this fun!

Hillman Residence

Custom Retirement Home We are proud to be building this very nice custom retirement home in Edgemont Meadows. This subdivision is the newest development in Edgemont located just outside of Durango. For this custom home we worked with the owners to select and hire an architect for the design. RMBA Architects did a great job on the design. Now we get to build it. We really do enjoy this design build process. It’s fun to turn the owners vision into reality!

Brydum-Sutton Residence

Incredible Views Incredible views. Like many of our clients this couple lived much of their life in the city. When they started thinking about retirement the Bayfield area was a perfect fit! Nestled in the trees north of Bayfield this new custom home will fulfill their dream. We are even including an endless pool so they can swim for exercise without even leaving the house. Another fine design/build project that we are proud to take on.

Mars Residence

Stunning Views Stunning views! That is what drew this family to want to build here. Situated high on a hilltop overlooking Navajo lake the views are amazing. You can see for miles in every direction. The cabin will be a second home and will be compact in size to keep maintenance to a minimum. With covered patios on both sides they can take in the view in the sun or shade anytime they want. Another fun project for some great clients!

Bell Residence

Creative Design Build Process I just love the creative design build process. This custom home is another great example. When we can work together with the client and the architect from the very beginning it makes for a fun project. Watching and guiding the design process brings out our creativity. Of course it takes a team effort to end up with the design our client wants within their budget. It really is a fun process. Now we get to build it!

Aardal Residence

Custom Timber Frame Home Custom timber frame home. This beautiful home sits in Forest Groves subdivision high above the Florida river. It is a mountain setting on a fairly steep lot. The slope of the lot dictated that this home would be built with a separate detached garage. The home itself is 2240 square ft. and the 2 car garage is oversized slightly. Completed in 2010 this home shows off a craftsman style with cedar siding, rough sawn beam trusses and stone. Inside features a gas fireplace surrounded by stone and the great room has all T&G stained wood ceiling. Heating is accomplished using a 93% efficient forced air system. Interior doors and trim are all clear pine stained to blend with the rest of the house. These clients where a pleasure to work with and we all had fun building their house.

Tyler Guesthouse

Southwest Adobe GuesthouseCustom Home These clients had already built their retirement home and were ready for a Southwest Adobe Guesthouse that could also serve as a caretaker’s home. This project is unique in the fact that the house is built using “earth blocks”. This is a type of construction similar to adobe and one that we hadn’t been involved with before. Because our clients built their other home this way they knew the right subcontractor to use for that portion. Situated on the La Plata river south west of Colorado this home gets plenty of sunshine. The southwest style home shows that style inside and out. True plaster walls on the inside, tile counters and the trim materials all show a Mexican theme. The house is heated using radiant in-floor that is heated using solar panels. This system is unbelievably efficient. Certainly one of the most unique homes that we have built. Another example of why we love our design/build process. A true custom home like no other in Durango.

Stough Residence

Custom Large Cedar Deck Custom large cedar deck at Mancos, Colorado vacation home. Custom hickory cabinets and custom milled rails for staircase.

Kovalchick Residence

Silverton Custom Home We should have known that One Silverton custom home wouldn’t be enough. Silverton is a beautiful mountain town and it seems the secret is out. When we started on the Murphy protect it didn’t take long for another new client to find us. This couple has been visiting Silverton for many years and are looking forward to their new custom home. This one is starting out as a large garage with an apartment above. The long term plan is to build an attached custom home. For now the smaller home will make a great place to live! It is fun to work for good people who appreciate what we do. I think we have the best clients around!

Shatting Residence

Multi-generational custom family home Multi-generational custom family home. This client is another example of our first time clients becoming lifetime clients. We built the Jensen residence on this property a couple of years ago. Now it is time for Their Mother to join them on the property. This amazing multi generational family will each have their own custom home built right on the farm. Bayfield, CO is a great place to live and work and I’m proud to be building for this family again!

Murphy Residence

Custom Silverton Vacation Home Arial Video Right at the edge of town in Beautiful Silverton Colorado is the location for this new custom vacation home. Our clients have built a few houses before in other places and really enjoy the process. So when it was time to build their vacation home in Silverton it was only natural that they chose the builder that “makes the process fun” We love getting to build in some incredible places. The views in Silverton are just awesome. We look forward to this home taking shape.

Sylvia Residence

Custom Boot Bench At Will Construction we believe one of the most important qualities of a builder is good communication. Sometimes it takes many years to prepare for and plan the design and construction of a new custom home. This was the case with our latest build. We first talked to this couple from Las Vegas, NV in 2010. We got along well from the beginning and have been planning their new home every since. As it turns out 2018 is the year to build! We worked together to design a very nice 2 story home with a walkout basement and large garage. The home is sited on the lot to maximize the mountain views and the passive solar exposure to the South. The home will be almost 2900 Square Ft. and will have 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a wine cellar. The home is designed with the master on the main floor along with a large great room and kitchen. This open concept makes the house work very well for the family. The location just North and East of Durango is close enough to town to be convenient and yet provides the mountain setting the owners fell in love […]

Kohler Residence

Radiant In-Floor Heat The Kohler residence will be a Mountain contemporary style home located in the mountains north of Bayfield. For now this will serve as a vacation retreat for our clients but eventually will be their retirement home.  The home was designed to be built using an existing foundation from another home on the property that had been previously demolished. The new home is larger so we added onto the old foundation where needed.  Our design build process working together with a local architect created the plans and allowed us to get started building. With almost 5000 square ft. of living space there is plenty of space to entertain and the second kitchen on the lower level will allow for 2 families to enjoy the home with their own space.  Heating will be provided using a high efficiency boiler and radiant in-floor heat. Large windows across the front take in the mountain views. Inside will be finished with wood beams and wood ceilings to give it that mountain look. Outside we will use mostly stucco to keep the house maintenance free. The rugged mountain location makes the perfect setting for this Bayfield Custom Home. We are proud to be […]

Temple Remodel

Smart Side Material The Temple’s had a very nice home near Shenandoah subdivision but the siding was dated and deteriorating. They hired us to remove the old siding and replace with new Smart Side material that will last for many years. This type of siding looks like wood but is actually a composite material that is more stable. The siding actually comes with a 50 year warranty. After 2 coats of paint the owners shouldn’t have to do anything for many years. The exterior of the house looks like new!

Moedl Residence

Remodel Addition Our client has hunted all over the world and needed some additional space for his hunting trophy’s. So the solution was to design and build a remodel addition. Phase 1 was to build a new garage so we could re-purpose the existing garage. The new garage is a large 3 car space with room for a workbench as well as the vehicles and toys. The existing garage will be transformed into the new master suite. Then the addition will be a large trophy room with a wet bar, high ceilings, stone fireplace and of course hunting trophy’s all around. This house sits above beautiful Vallecito lake near Bayfield, CO. The views of the lake are fantastic!

Pepion-Sisco Residence

Maintenance free stucco exterior These clients were ready to retire and wanted to downsize. They were living in a very nice home in Dalton Ranch which is in the Animas Valley North of Durango. They wanted a more country setting and a smaller house with less maintenance. So we designed and built their retirement home on their lot in Timerdale Estates just outside of Bayfield. Completed in March of 2017 our clients are enjoying their new home. The exterior is stucco for no maintenance. The inside is finished very nicely with wood, tile and carpet flooring. Granite counters, semi-custom cabinets and wood trim. All sitting on a beautiful lot that overlooks a seasonal pond.

Williams Residence

Knotty Adler Trim The home includes features such as hand scraped wide plank Hevea wood flooring, Beech cabinets, Quartz counters, Knotty Alder trim, custom audio ,and is pre-wired for security.  The home is heated by a 95% efficient furnace, utilizes high quality low-e windows and includes GE Monogram Professional energy star rated appliances. The outside is finished using typical mountain home materials that blend in with the surrounding landscape.  A combination of natural stone, stucco, and cedar make for an outstanding presentation.  Don’t miss the reclaimed beetle kill pine ceilings on the porches! This home was featured Durango Parade of Homes best bath!

Schlotthauer Residence

Efficient “train theme” family vacation home When the Schlotthauer family purchased this lot north of Durango and situated just below the train tracks they dreamed of eventually building an efficient family oriented vacation home. If there is a theme to the home it is “trains”. The family has enjoyed watching and riding the Narrow gauge train for many years and wanted to include some details in the house to reflect their interest. Should you miss the train themed light fixtures that flank the large 2 car garage, you will certainly notice the steam engine that is etched into the custom front door (a family member did the etching). On the outside we incorporated typical craftsman details like the square tapered columns sitting on stone piers and supporting the open beam pergolas. The stone wainscot with stucco above and a combination of shingle and lap siding on the gables certainly ads to the craftsman feel. The home includes custom features such as oak flooring, Knotty beech cabinets, Quartz counters, Pine doors & trim, as well as a built in flat screen with surround sound over the fireplace. The home is heated by a 95% efficient furnace, utilizes high quality low e […]

Genualdi Residence

Sweat Equity Sometimes our clients want to get their hands dirty and put some sweat equity into their homes. The Genualdi residence was one of those projects. Will Construction completed all of the major components of the construction and the owners took over some of the finish work. Built on the Florida Mesa just outside of Durango they have acreage as well as easy access to Durango. Incredible views of the La Plata mountains and room to roam on this gorgeous lot. Stucco and stone make up the exterior creating a low maintenance home that performs well.

Gaherty Residence

Mountain Style Home Build in 2002 This custom home was built for a client who wanted the looks of a log home but without the additional maintenance and cost. We designed and built a very nice mountain style home with a loft. Using log accents for posts and beams as well as log railings on stairs gives it the log look. Inside to keep with the mountain theme we used 1×6 T&G Aspen for much of the interior walls. This gives the house the look of a D-log construction even from the inside. Located in the Deer Valley estates subdivision East of Bayfield the owners enjoy wildlife and privacy in their custom home.

Walsh Residence

Cedar Siding and stone blends in with the surroundings I met this client through a referral from one of my suppliers in 2002. Our client is an avid skier and enjoyed Purgatory resort. He wanted to be close to Durango and also close to Purgatory. So Water Fall Village in the Animas valley north of Durango was the perfect location. Heated using a high efficiency forced air system together with a cozy wood stove the house stays very comfortable. The exterior is finished with cedar siding and stone allowing it to blend with the surroundings.

Vankirk Residence

Wrap around covered porch This Durango Custom home was designed and built in 1999 on the Florida Mesa. Our clients are local business people and have enjoyed their 2800 square ft. home for many years now. The wrap around covered porch gives the house that typical farm house style. Stucco and metal roofing allow for very little maintenance. The views from the redwood decks are amazing.

Ute Pass Ranch

Log Accents inside and out Built in 2004 this house sits in Ute Pass Ranch subdivision just on the edge of Durango. The home is 3 bedrooms 2.5 bath plus an office and large 2 car garage with workshop. At 3064 square ft. the home offers plenty of living space. For this home we chose to use log accents inside and out. That along with some wood ceilings gives the home that country feeling. It is heated with radiant in-floor heating using a high efficiency boiler. Granite counters, semi-custom cabinets and beautiful stone work add to the look.

Collins Residence

This Custom Home Features a Full blown spa/Hot tub in the Master Bedroom The Collins residence is another example of a design build project that we completed in 2005. The home built in Enchanted Forest Subdivision between Durango and Bayfield is our customers retirement home. The design was conventional using typical mountain finishes to help it blend while still not requiring much maintenance. The owner likes to travel so we even included a large RV garage. One of the fun things about building a new custom home in Durango is you get to have whatever you want. In this case the client wanted a full-blown spa/hot tub in his master bathroom. This was a first for us but we gave him what he wanted. The tub had to be set with a crane before the roof was built! As always building a custom home with Will Construction is a fun process and this house was no exception.

Will Residence

Wide plank hand scraped hickory wood floors As you might guess from the title this home belongs to Kurt & Terri Will, owners of Will Construction. We designed and built our home in 2000 and are still enjoying the location. Situated on 17 acres south west of Durango and south east of Bayfield the location works well for us. With 2200 square Ft. of heated living space, 4 bedrooms 2.5 bathrooms and an office it functions well for our family. The home has been remodeled somewhat since we built in 2000. We now have wide plank hand scraped hickory wood floors, Knotty Alder doors and trim. Semi-custom hickory cabinets, solid surface counters and stainless appliances make up the kitchen. As you can see by the large covered deck we enjoy our outdoor space. The covered redwood deck is built around a hot tub and also the home for our barbecue which we use year round! We have thought many times about building again (bigger, nicer etc…) but we really love where we are and our house suits us just fine!

Slivon Residence

Drilled pier foundation This mountain home sits high on a ridge above Lemon Reservoir outside of Durango. The views from this ridge are amazing and we sited the house as close as we could to the edge. This required a drilled pier foundation. At this elevation Durango gets quite a lot of snow and we built this one through the Winter! It made for an interesting project and lots of plowing and shoveling but the end result is a very nice home that our clients are proud of.

Shurts Residence

River access with trout pond in the yard This home at Vallecito Lake north of Bayfield sits right on the river complete with a trout pond in the yard. This client wanted logs but didn’t want the maintenance issues sometimes associated with a full log home. So we built a highly efficient conventionally framed home and used log accents. We used log corners and log siding for the exterior. Log railings and posts make up the inside of the house. There is even a log mantle that was crafted from one of the trees on the lot! The stone fireplace makes for a great seating area on those cold nights. A beautiful mountain style “cabin” in the woods.

Moody Residence

Perfect example of why the design/build process works so well The Moody residence is a perfect example of why the design/build process works so well. We designed and then built this custom home in 2003. When we first met these clients they had already spent a substantial amount of money having an architect design the home. Unfortunately without any input from a builder up front they wound up with a design that far exceeded their budget. So we started over and Will Construction designed and built a house that met their requirements and fit their budget! Allowing us as the builder to be involved from the beginning like this allows us to help control costs. This also helps to meet the goals of the owner. These clients enjoyed the process. In 2010 when they decided they wanted to build a large garage/shop with office and living space above they didn’t think twice about calling Will Construction again.

Lucero Residence

Custom Dream Log Home The Lucero family were long time ranches and had always dreamed of a log home. They had a large property West of Durango in Hesperus. So with our help we were able to design and build their dream home. It is a modestly sized but very nicely finished home. We used “D logs” for the wall construction outside. Inside the house has that classic farmhouse feel. Solid wood flooring, large wooden beams and wood ceilings and custom wood cabinets in the kitchen. We used granite tile countertops and high end appliances. A free-standing wood stove sits on a stone hearth with stone behind. Several built in bookcases make this custom log home feel like home!

Jarrette Ireland Residence

Mountain Theme This family bought a lot outside of Bayfield, in an area called Texas Creek. It is a mountain setting and provided the perfect location for their new custom home. Horizontal lap siding covers the exterior. The lap siding is primed and then painted. To help the house blend in we used forest green trim and a dark colored shingle roof. Inside the mountain theme continues with wide plank hardwood flooring, solid wood doors and trim and a small free-standing wood stove in the corner. Keeping the design simple helps make the construction as efficient and cost effective as possible. We really do enjoy the variety in our customers and in the types and styles of houses we build for them.

Clark Gist Residence

Saltillo tile floors add a Southwest flair to this house Some of our clients like log homes but don’t want the added maintenance that comes with them. For those people, we design and build using conventional framing but incorporate log accents. For this mountain home built just outside of Durango in the Forest Groves subdivision in 2002, we used log posts, beams, log railings and other accents. There is even a small loft for the grandkids complete with log railings and a log ladder. The stone on the outside helps the house blend into the surroundings. The large fireplace is constructed with stone and includes a wood box and custom log mantle. Saltillo tile floors add a southwest flair to this house. The house sits right on the Florida river so we designed and built a large window wall using logs for the framework. This is just another fine example of what Durango custom home building should be!

Hallinan Residence

Cedar Siding/Redwood Decks When this couple decided to retire they looked for a reputable custom home builder in Bayfield. Fortunately for us they found Will Construction. Situated in the Saul’s Creek area just East of Bayfield they have room for horses and are still close to Bayfield. Their house is a relatively simple design making it economical to build. Cedar siding and redwood decks allow the house to blend with the surroundings. This house is another example of how a custom home doesn’t have to be an expensive home. We enjoy designing and building custom homes that meet our clients dreams!

Dowrick White Residence

Large Glass Stair Tower Allows Outstanding Views When we say we like a challenge, this design-build project in Durango is what we are talking about. These clients purchased a lot with spectacular views near Turtle lake in Durango. But the lot is extremely steep which greatly limited our design choices. Will Construction was up for the challenge. We hired a local architect to design our clients dream home and then of course we built it for them. The house is very unique and sits on large concrete pillars with a drive under carport. The entry flows into a large glass stair tower that allows you to take in the views as you climb to the main level. Access around the house was so limited that our excavation contractor had to use a crane to back fill around the house. The result though is a stunning custom home with outstanding views. Our clients are living their dream and we are proud to have helped.

Compton Residence

Custom Tile Dog Shower This custom home was designed and built in 2006 just West of Durango near Junction creek. The family wanted a single level ranch style home with very low maintenance. The outside is mostly stucco with a few wood accents to dress it up. Inside is another example of how Durango residents take care of their pets. Another custom tile dog shower! A large kitchen and great room are central to the design and provide a great place for the family to relax. As a Durango custom home builder we sure enjoy designing and building to meet our clients’ needs and dreams!

Williams Residence

Incredible river frontage fishing Incredible River Frontage Fishing. This house was built for a local business owner who also happens to be an avid fly fisherman so the site was perfect.  The house is situated above the Animas river with some incredible views and of course river frontage as well. The house was fun to build and is a great showcase of our work.  But the person who really should get the attention is the owner, Joe Williams.  Since we finished that house Joe has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and even with that diagnosis he continues to do great things! See this article from the Durango Herald for just some of what Joe has accomplished: Joe Williams We have some of the best clients and we are proud to have been a small part of their lives.

96 Twilight Trails Circle

With 4379 Square Ft. this is a large custom home featuring 5 bedrooms, 4-1/2 baths and office, game room and more.  Knotty Alder doors, trim and cabinets, Custom audio throughout, Walnut plank floors and a walk in pantry. Bailey Residence

Custom Redwood Deck Built in 2002 for a local Durango business owner this house is located in Forest Lakes subdivision north of Bayfield. You wouldn’t know it by driving through there but Forest Lakes is actually the largest subdivision in LaPlata county. For this home we used conventional construction with cedar siding outside. The home features a huge custom redwood deck taking in the mountain views. The house is heated with radiant in-floor heat using 3 zones so every part of the house is comfortable. Windows are upgraded Pine wood interiors and aluminum clad exteriors. Highly efficient and beautiful as well. The interior door and trim are all stained pine to go with the pine forest the house sits in. Of course the great room has a free standing wood stove type fireplace to add to the ambiance. The walls and roof are then filled in using Structural Insulated Panels or SIPS. These panels provide an R-25 wall and an R-40 Roof but just as important create a very tight building envelope. Maintenance Free Design We were asked to help with part of the construction of a custom home located in Electra Lake near Durango, Co.   In this case the owners were quite capable and did most of the interior work themselves. They hired Will Construction to complete the foundation, framing and siding of their new home. The rest of the custom building was finished by the owners and other Durango subcontractors.  The house is a very simple, maintenance free design using stucco and metal for most of the exterior finishes.
