This home was designed and built in the Animas Valley north of Durango to serve as our client’s beautiful retirement home. Every detail was thought about and planned so it would meet our client’s needs and dreams. Cooking and entertaining are important so the kitchen includes two large islands to provide plenty of working space. The great room concept allows the kitchen, living area and dining area to all be open and connected. The wall mounted flat screen tv is mounted next to the fireplace with built in cabinets nearby. Radiant in-floor heat keeps the house at a constant comfortable temperature. Tile and wood flooring helps to radiate heat in the winter and keeps bare feet happy. Stucco and stone makes up much of the exterior so the outside should be mostly maintenance free. We even included a small overhead garage door on the side for the yard tools.
When the May family decided to build their dream home they knew they wanted quality old world craftsmanship and a highly insulated highly efficient home. They decided that a true Timber Frame home was what they wanted. Wind River Timber Frames would partner with Will Construction to create the home. The frame is hand crafted using Oak beams and traditional joinery. All timber connections are made using mortise and tenon joints (no metal plates and no nails). The walls and roof are then filled in using Structural Insulated Panels or SIPS. These panels provide an R-25 wall and an R-40 Roof but just as important create a very tight building envelope. The finished product is beautiful to look at and performs more efficiently than most conventional homes. The home includes custom features such as oak flooring, Knotty Cherry cabinets, Granite counters, Pine doors & trim, as well as a Gorgeous wood burning fireplace with stone hearth and surround. The home is heated by a high efficiency gas boiler and radiant in floor heat, utilizes high quality low e wood/clad windows and the kitchen includes GE Café energy star rated appliances. The stone, stucco and wood exterior blends flawlessly with the large covered deck that faces amazing La Plata mountain views. The home is 3977 Square ft. with 3 bedrooms and 3-1/2 baths. This home won First Place Judges selection overall, and also best kitchen in the 2013 Durango Parade of homes
Will Construction designed and built the Brunton Modern Craftsman Style Custom Home in Hesperus, Colorado near Shenandoah subdivision, including all site work and a long driveway. These clients were fortunate enough to find a beautiful almost 15 acre lot near Shenandoah subdivision in Durango Colorado. When they decided to build their Durango Custom Home they chose Will Construction to be their builder. We worked together on the design/build project to come up with a design that they could be proud of. What resulted was a very nice custom home completed in 2012 with about 3200 square ft. of living space and a large 980 square ft. garage. The home is a modern craftsman style with low maintenance stucco and wood accents outside. Even the dogs are happy with the custom tile dog shower that we designed and built. The Miller’s purchased this lot in Forest Lakes Subdivision north of Bayfield to build their dream retirement home. Fortunately for us they found Will Construction to build it. The house is a 2 story with a finished walk out basement that totals approximately 2,700 square ft. The house is a craftsman style with large view windows that take in the mountain views. Large beam trusses accent the exterior along with the large decks. We utilized cable railings on the decks to minimize any obstruction to the views. As for energy efficiency this house features a ground source geothermal heat pump system that keeps their utility bills almost nonexistent. A great example of an energy efficient mountain retirement home custom built by Will Construction.
We were asked to help with part of the construction of a custom home located in Electra Lake near Durango, Co. In this case the owners were quite capable and did most of the interior work themselves. They hired Will Construction to complete the foundation, framing and siding of their new home. The rest of the custom building was finished by the owners and other Durango subcontractors. The house is a very simple, maintenance free design using stucco and metal for most of the exterior finishes.
Tight and efficient home due to green building practices. This custom timber frame home was designed and built in 2014. It is a true timber frame and for that part we partnered again with Wind River Timber Frames out of Mancos, CO. The joinery and craftsmanship of the woodwork is beautiful! This type of timber frame construction uses mortise and tenon joints with no nails or mechanical fasteners. This is a true art that you don’t see often anymore. The house has 3167 square Ft. of heated living space and utilizes solar panels to offset much of the electric bills. With SIP (Structural Insulated Panels) for the walls, proper air sealing techniques and other green building practices this house is very tight and efficient. Our clients can enjoy a very low maintenance home that is impressive to see. A great place to retire just west of Durango.
We first got involved with these folks when they hired us to pour a colored concrete patio slab at their home. At the time they were dreaming of a remodel/addition someday. In 2014 that someday came. We designed and built a very nice master suite addition that shows very well. Located in the Animas Valley North of Durango they have beautiful views, easy access to Purgatory ski area and are close to Durango. With a modern contemporary fireplace built into the wall and a custom hand distressed and finished sliding barn door this is another great example of mountain contemporary. Great clients and a great location made this another fun project for us.
Custom Barndominium. This “Barn” is actually a 3000 Square Ft. Metal building that we custom built to allow for 2000 Square Ft. of shop/garage space and 1000 Square Ft. of finished living space. Some people call this concept a barndominium. Because the living space is inside the metal building structure it is actually very efficient. Our custom home client says that the heating bills are very low. The shop space consists of a very nice wood shop complete with dust extraction and some very nice woodworking tools. Space to store the RV and also the cars and other toys. We recently completed an addition to the living space that added about 420 Square Ft. serving as the master bedroom. This is a great example of what we mean by a Durango custom home. It really is one of a kind!
