Some of our clients like log homes but don’t want the added maintenance that comes with them. For those people, we design and build using conventional framing but incorporate log accents. For this mountain home built just outside of Durango in the Forest Groves subdivision in 2002, we used log posts, beams, log railings and other accents. There is even a small loft for the grandkids complete with log railings and a log ladder. The stone on the outside helps the house blend into the surroundings. The large fireplace is constructed with stone and includes a wood box and custom log mantle. Saltillo tile floors add a southwest flair to this house. The house sits right on the Florida river so we designed and built a large window wall using logs for the framework. This is just another fine example of what Durango custom home building should be!
When this couple decided to retire they looked for a reputable custom home builder in Bayfield. Fortunately for us they found Will Construction. Situated in the Saul’s Creek area just East of Bayfield they have room for horses and are still close to Bayfield. Their house is a relatively simple design making it economical to build. Cedar siding and redwood decks allow the house to blend with the surroundings. This house is another example of how a custom home doesn’t have to be an expensive home. We enjoy designing and building custom homes that meet our clients dreams!
When we say we like a challenge, this design-build project in Durango is what we are talking about. These clients purchased a lot with spectacular views near Turtle lake in Durango. But the lot is extremely steep which greatly limited our design choices. Will Construction was up for the challenge. We hired a local architect to design our clients dream home and then of course we built it for them. The house is very unique and sits on large concrete pillars with a drive under carport. The entry flows into a large glass stair tower that allows you to take in the views as you climb to the main level. Access around the house was so limited that our excavation contractor had to use a crane to back fill around the house. The result though is a stunning custom home with outstanding views. Our clients are living their dream and we are proud to have helped.
Small commercial construction projects are fun too! This one was for my dentist and was a great custom building project. Situated on a fairly small and uniquely shaped lot in Bayfield, CO, the design had to fit the lot. So the building shape and roof design follow the lot lines. This made for a very nice looking building that is both functional for the doctor’s and blends in well with the neighborhood. We give our light commercial projects the same attention to quality and detail as we do our fine custom homes.
This custom home was designed and built in 2006 just West of Durango near Junction creek. The family wanted a single level ranch style home with very low maintenance. The outside is mostly stucco with a few wood accents to dress it up. Inside is another example of how Durango residents take care of their pets. Another custom tile dog shower! A large kitchen and great room are central to the design and provide a great place for the family to relax. As a Durango custom home builder we sure enjoy designing and building to meet our clients’ needs and dreams!
Incredible River Frontage Fishing. This house was built for a local business owner who also happens to be an avid fly fisherman so the site was perfect. The house is situated above the Animas river with some incredible views and of course river frontage as well. The house was fun to build and is a great showcase of our work. But the person who really should get the attention is the owner, Joe Williams. Since we finished that house Joe has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and even with that diagnosis he continues to do great things!
See this article from the Durango Herald for just some of what Joe has accomplished: Joe Williams
We have some of the best clients and we are proud to have been a small part of their lives.

Built in 2002 for a local Durango business owner this house is located in Forest Lakes subdivision north of Bayfield. You wouldn’t know it by driving through there but Forest Lakes is actually the largest subdivision in LaPlata county. For this home we used conventional construction with cedar siding outside. The home features a huge custom redwood deck taking in the mountain views. The house is heated with radiant in-floor heat using 3 zones so every part of the house is comfortable. Windows are upgraded Pine wood interiors and aluminum clad exteriors. Highly efficient and beautiful as well. The interior door and trim are all stained pine to go with the pine forest the house sits in. Of course the great room has a free standing wood stove type fireplace to add to the ambiance. This was another fun project that the owners are proud of.

The home was built with a future owner in mind. This house was built and sold in 2006 in a very nice subdivision off of Florida rd. in Durango, CO. The house has 2500 square ft. of finished living space and a 760 square ft. completely finished garage. It is 4 bedrooms, 2-1/2 bath plus office and a 3 car garage. Sitting on approximately 1/2 acre.
