Our client has hunted all over the world and needed some additional space for his hunting trophy’s. So the solution was to design and build a remodel addition. Phase 1 was to build a new garage so we could re-purpose the existing garage. The new garage is a large 3 car space with room for a workbench as well as the vehicles and toys. The existing garage will be transformed into the new master suite. Then the addition will be a large trophy room with a wet bar, high ceilings, stone fireplace and of course hunting trophy’s all around. This house sits above beautiful Vallecito lake near Bayfield, CO. The views of the lake are fantastic!
These clients were ready to retire and wanted to downsize. They were living in a very nice home in Dalton Ranch which is in the Animas Valley North of Durango. They wanted a more country setting and a smaller house with less maintenance. So we designed and built their retirement home on their lot in Timerdale Estates just outside of Bayfield. Completed in March of 2017 our clients are enjoying their new home. The exterior is stucco for no maintenance. The inside is finished very nicely with wood, tile and carpet flooring. Granite counters, semi-custom cabinets and wood trim. All sitting on a beautiful lot that overlooks a seasonal pond.
We, as builders and designers, have learned a lot over the years about proper construction techniques. This home, built long before I was building, had roof rafters that were too small and too weak. Our winter snow finally took its toll and the roof was sagging and failing badly. The solution was to completely remove the old roof framing and build a new engineered truss roof. The house now has the same charm of the old house but with modern construction and engineering will stand up to whatever snow Mother Nature can dish out. We enjoy remodeling projects on old houses like this every now and then and are glad we could help these people!

This Bayfield remodel was designed and built to add some outdoor living space. With a kiva style fireplace, a built in hot tub and outdoor kitchen area entertaining is easy. The floor is colored and stamped concrete for low maintenance and good looks. Rough sawn beams and a wood t & G ceiling finish out the inside. The deck around the hot tub is built from Brazillian Ipe and is beautiful. We even built the custom cabinets for the outdoor kitchen from the same Ipe wood. Another fine example of design/build in a Bayfield addition.
When the Schlotthauer family purchased this lot north of Durango and situated just below the train tracks they dreamed of eventually building an efficient family oriented vacation home. If there is a theme to the home it is “trains”. The family has enjoyed watching and riding the Narrow gauge train for many years and wanted to include some details in the house to reflect their interest. Should you miss the train themed light fixtures that flank the large 2 car garage, you will certainly notice the steam engine that is etched into the custom front door (a family member did the etching). On the outside we incorporated typical craftsman details like the square tapered columns sitting on stone piers and supporting the open beam pergolas. The stone wainscot with stucco above and a combination of shingle and lap siding on the gables certainly ads to the craftsman feel. The home includes custom features such as oak flooring, Knotty beech cabinets, Quartz counters, Pine doors & trim, as well as a built in flat screen with surround sound over the fireplace. The home is heated by a 95% efficient furnace, utilizes high quality low e vinyl windows and the kitchen includes GE stainless energy star rated appliances. Together with a thoroughly sealed building envelope the house will perform very efficiently.
The Moody residence is a perfect example of why the design/build process works so well. We designed and then built their custom home in 2003. When we first met these clients they had already spent a substantial amount of money having an architect design the home. Unfortunately without any input from a builder up front they wound up with a design that far exceeded their budget. So we started over and Will Construction designed and built a house that met their requirements and fit their budget! Allowing us as the builder to be involved from the beginning like this allows us to help control costs and also to meet the goals of the owner. These clients enjoyed the process and in 2010 when they decided they wanted to build a large garage/shop with office and living space above they didn’t think twice about calling Will Construction again.
This family needed some additional living space in their custom home built near Turtle Lake in Durango. Completed in 2011 this remodel/addition project added a fantastic game room.
Sometimes our clients want to get their hands dirty and put some sweat equity into their homes. The Genualdi residence was one of those projects. Will Construction completed all of the major components of the construction and the owners took over some of the finish work. Built on the Florida Mesa just outside of Durango they have acreage as well as easy access to Durango. Incredible views of the La Plata mountains and room to roam on this gorgeous lot. Stucco and stone make up the exterior creating a low maintenance home that performs well.
