This is a Rare Animas Valley property that has been in the same family for generations. The existing house was actually built for the first generation to live there. Since the house was built in the early 60’s it is overdue for some attention. Our clients are getting close to retirement and are excited to move back from the Denver area so they can enjoy everything Durango has to offer. Essentially the entire interior of the house is being gutted and re-built. The floor plan is changing and of course all of the finishes are being updated at the same time. Once fully renovated the home will have a new covered front entry porch and the rear deck will have a new roof over it as well. New siding and roofing on the outside and they will pretty much have a brand new house. This location in the Animas valley together with the new home renovations we are working on will make an outstanding place to retire! We are excited for our clients and proud to be the company they chose to build it.

This couple bought this property in Bayfield several years ago with a dream to turn it into a profitable vegetable farm and to eventually replace the dated mobile home with a new custom home. Well their dream is becoming a reality. The farm is a great success and the new home project is under way. We worked together on the design build project to create architectural plans for their new custom home. The old house has been demolished with the use of our equipment and skilled operators. Excavation has begun and soon the new custom home will begin to take shape. We appreciate the opportunity to work with such great clients. And we appreciate the value their farm gives the town of Bayfield.  Their new custom home will be something they can be proud of and will enjoy for many years to come.

At Will Construction we believe one of the most important qualities of a builder is good communication. Sometimes it takes many years to prepare for and plan the design and construction of a new custom home. This was the case with our latest build. We first talked to this couple from Las Vegas, NV in 2010. We got along well from the beginning and have been planning their new home every since. As it turns out 2018 is the year to build! We worked together to design a very nice 2 story home with a walkout basement and large garage. The home is sited on the lot to maximize the mountain views and the passive solar exposure to the South. The home will be almost 2900 Square Ft. and will have 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a wine cellar. The home is designed with the master on the main floor along with a large great room and kitchen. This open concept makes the house work very well for the family. The location just North and East of Durango is close enough to town to be convenient and yet provides the mountain setting the owners fell in love with.

The Kohler residence will be a Mountain contemporary style home located in the mountains north of Bayfield. For now this will serve as a vacation retreat for our clients but eventually will be their retirement home.  The home was designed to be built using an existing foundation from another home on the property that had been previously demolished. The new home is larger so we added onto the old foundation where needed.  Our design build process working together with a local architect created the plans and allowed us to get started building. With almost 5000 square ft. of living space there is plenty of space to entertain and the second kitchen on the lower level will allow for 2 families to enjoy the home with their own space.  Heating will be provided using a high efficiency boiler and radiant in-floor heat. Large windows across the front take in the mountain views. Inside will be finished with wood beams and wood ceilings to give it that mountain look. Outside we will use mostly stucco to keep the house maintenance free. The rugged mountain location makes the perfect setting for this Bayfield Custom Home. We are proud to be working with great clients on a great project!

The Olander family has owned this river front property below Lemon Reservoir since the 60’s. The property already has a nice log cabin on it but the second home was a small and very old house. This house had fallen into disrepair and because it lacked modern insulation, plumbing etc… they decided it was time for a replacement. So they hired Will Construction to demolish the old house, design a new one, and then complete the construction of their new custom home. Located in the mountains North West of Durango right on the Florida river the site is great. Beautiful mountain views in all directions and of course the sound of the river make it a great location for a mountain cabin. The house we designed is a modest 1500 Square ft. and a very simple design. This will allow our clients to enjoy the mountains and the scenery, not maintaining their home. The exterior will be finished with stucco leading to a virtually maintenance free exterior. The inside will have tile floor throughout, high efficiency heating and a wood burning stove for that mountain ambiance. This is certainly another example of how a custom home in Durango doesn’t have to be expensive!

Passive Solar Heat allows this house West of Durango in La Plata canyon to be heated. It is a beautiful log home with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. You can even see Hesperus ski area when they are night skiing. The house has a very large atrium that allows for passive solar heat and some amazing plants that grow year round. The existing windows had leaked over the years causing some minor damage and requiring constant maintenance. So our approach was to demolish the exterior wall and part of the roof structure and rebuild using a stronger design. This allowed for larger energy efficient windows and a new roof slope that allowed the snow to shed easier with no more leaks! The remodel turned out beautifully and the owners are happy to not have the maintenance issues anymore.

The Temple’s had a very nice home near Shenandoah subdivision but the siding was dated and deteriorating. They hired us to remove the old siding and replace with new Smart Side material that will last for many years. This type of siding looks like wood but is actually a composite material that is more stable. The siding actually comes with a 50 year warranty. After 2 coats of paint the owners shouldn’t have to do anything for many years. The exterior of the house looks like new!

These clients love the location of their home but the very small home built in the 1950’s just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. Located in Durango very close to parks and downtown they wanted to remodel and add on rather than start over somewhere else. You might have heard people talk about “popping the top” on a house. Well that is essentially what we did here. The old roof structure was removed and the house gutted to bare studs on the exterior walls. We added on to the back of the house on the main level. Then built a completely new second story. The house has more than doubled in size and now consists of modern high efficiency insulation and heating systems. The exterior is mostly stucco with just enough wood to create great curb appeal. Maintenance will be very low. The decks are trex so again no maintenance. Wood and tile floors inside are easy to clean and look great. This custom remodel/addition in Durango is one we are very proud of and so are our clients.

Our client has hunted all over the world and needed some additional space for his hunting trophy’s. So the solution was to design and build a remodel addition. Phase 1 was to build a new garage so we could re-purpose the existing garage. The new garage is a large 3 car space with room for a workbench as well as the vehicles and toys. The existing garage will be transformed into the new master suite. Then the addition will be a large trophy room with a wet bar, high ceilings, stone fireplace and of course hunting trophy’s all around. This house sits above beautiful Vallecito lake near Bayfield, CO. The views of the lake are fantastic!

These clients were ready to retire and wanted to downsize. They were living in a very nice home in Dalton Ranch which is in the Animas Valley North of Durango. They wanted a more country setting and a smaller house with less maintenance. So we designed and built their retirement home on their lot in Timerdale Estates just outside of Bayfield. Completed in March of 2017 our clients are enjoying their new home. The exterior is stucco for no maintenance. The inside is finished very nicely with wood, tile and carpet flooring. Granite counters, semi-custom cabinets and wood trim. All sitting on a beautiful lot that overlooks a seasonal pond.
