This mountain home sits high on a ridge above Lemon Reservoir outside of Durango. The views from this ridge are amazing and we sited the house as close as we could to the edge. This required a drilled pier foundation. At this elevation Durango gets quite a lot of snow and we built this one through the Winter! It made for an interesting project and lots of plowing and shoveling but the end result is a very nice home that our clients are proud of.

This family bought a lot outside of Bayfield, in an area called Texas Creek. It is a mountain setting and provided the perfect location for their new custom home. Horizontal lap siding covers the exterior. The lap siding is primed and then painted. To help the house blend in we used forest green trim and a dark colored shingle roof. Inside the mountain theme continues with wide plank hardwood flooring, solid wood doors and trim and a small free-standing wood stove in the corner. Keeping the design simple helps make the construction as efficient and cost effective as possible. We really do enjoy the variety in our customers and in the types and styles of houses we build for them.

Some of our clients like log homes but don’t want the added maintenance that comes with them. For those people, we design and build using conventional framing but incorporate log accents. For this mountain home built just outside of Durango in the Forest Groves subdivision in 2002, we used log posts, beams, log railings and other accents. There is even a small loft for the grandkids complete with log railings and a log ladder. The stone on the outside helps the house blend into the surroundings. When we say we like a challenge, this design-build project in Durango is what we are talking about. These clients purchased a lot with spectacular views near Turtle lake in Durango. But the lot is extremely steep which greatly limited our design choices. Will Construction was up for the challenge. We hired a local architect to design our clients dream home and then of course we built it for them. The house is very unique and sits on large concrete pillars with a drive under carport. The entry flows into a large glass stair tower that allows you to take in the views as you climb to the main level. Access around the house was so limited that our excavation contractor had to use a crane to back fill around the house. The result though is a stunning custom home with outstanding views. Our clients are living their dream and we are proud to have helped.

Incredible River Frontage Fishing. This house was built for a local business owner who also happens to be an avid fly fisherman so the site was perfect.  The house is situated above the Animas river with some incredible views and of course river frontage as well. The house was fun to build and is a great showcase of our work.  But the person who really should get the attention is the owner, Joe Williams.  Since we finished that house Joe has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and even with that diagnosis he continues to do great things!

See this article from the Durango Herald for just some of what Joe has accomplished: Joe Williams

We have some of the best clients and we are proud to have been a small part of their lives.

This house is built better and finished better than most!

True Custom Built Home

*This is a true “custom” house.  There are no others like it in Durango.  Not a tract house.

*Builder has an outstanding reputation for quality and service.  We stand behind our product.

*We use only high quality reputable subs and suppliers that also stand behind their product.

*Our heating system for example is high tech., efficient, and comfortable.

In Floor heat – means no noise, no dust, no filters to change, efficient constant comfort.

-We use Gypcrete over the subfloor, not concrete or staple up.

Highly efficient, holds heat very well, quiet between floors, lightweight.

-system uses multiple zones for different temp in different areas.

-system monitors outside air temp as well as inside to keep house temp. constant and not over heat the house.

High End Plumbing System

*Our plumbing system does not cut corners.  The hot water comes from the boiler which is very efficient and heats water quickly- you will not run out.  We include a hot water re circulation system so you don’t have to wait for hot water at the tap.  All hot water lines are insulated.

*The exterior siding and trim is Cedar which is coated with a UV inhibiting stain.  The cedar is rot and decay resistant even with no coating however.

*Interior is drywall with wood T&G ceiling in master bedroom.  The Drywall texture is hand applied with a skip trowel for a custom look.

*Interior doors and trim are solid pine.  Stained, sanded and top coated with multiple coats of clear finish.

*Hickory cabinets include upgraded finger joint drawers with upgraded slides

*Counter tops are solid granite slab.

*Fireplace is a high efficiency direct vent unit with a blower.

*Appliances are high end GE stainless.

*Flooring is Walnut hardwood in great room and office, tile in kitchen, dining, bathrooms and laundry.  Crack suppressant membrane is installed under all tile (costs more but works very well to eliminate cracked tile).

Bedrooms are carpet.

*Driveway is poured concrete which holds up much better than asphalt.  Entry is colored and stamped.

This custom home built by Will Construction located in Ute Pass Ranch subdivision in Durango, Colo., was constructed with log accents.  Cedar and stone with stamped concrete entry are truly unique.  The home was built with a future owner in mind. This house was built and sold in 2006 in a very nice subdivision off of Florida rd. in Durango, CO. The house has 2500 square ft. of finished living space and a 760 square ft. completely finished garage. It is 4 bedrooms, 2-1/2 bath plus office and a 3 car garage. Sitting on approximately 1/2 acre.

The home was purchased soon after completion by a local bank executive who still lives there today. Will Construction used a combination of log accents, cedar trim and stucco to finish the outside creating a nice looking home that will require minimal maintenance. Inside the focus is on the great room with the high efficiency gas fireplace with stone surround and T&G Pine ceiling. In being creative, we even used stone on the back of the kitchen bar so swinging feet don’t scar it up while eating breakfast. The house is heated with an efficient Boderus boiler and radiant in-floor heating.  Finally, the kitchen is finished off with Natural Hickory cabinets and granite counter tops.

This home was designed and built in the Animas Valley north of Durango to serve as our client’s beautiful retirement home.  Every detail was thought about and planned so it would meet our client’s needs and dreams.  Cooking and entertaining are important so the kitchen includes two large islands to provide plenty of working space.  The great room concept allows the kitchen, living area and dining area to all be open and connected.  The wall mounted flat screen tv is mounted next to the fireplace with built in cabinets nearby.  Radiant in-floor heat keeps the house at a constant comfortable temperature.  Tile and wood flooring helps to radiate heat in the winter and keeps bare feet happy.   Stucco and stone makes up much of the exterior so the outside should be mostly maintenance free.  We even included a small overhead garage door on the side for the yard tools.

When the May family decided to build their dream home they knew they wanted quality old world craftsmanship and a highly insulated highly efficient home. They decided that a true Timber Frame home was what they wanted. Wind River Timber Frames would partner with Will Construction to create the home. The frame is hand crafted using Oak beams and traditional joinery. All timber connections are made using mortise and tenon joints (no metal plates and no nails). The walls and roof are then filled in using Structural Insulated Panels or SIPS. These panels provide an R-25 wall and an R-40 Roof but just as important create a very tight building envelope. The finished product is beautiful to look at and performs more efficiently than most conventional homes. The home includes custom features such as oak flooring, Knotty Cherry cabinets, Granite counters, Pine doors & trim, as well as a Gorgeous wood burning fireplace with stone hearth and surround. The home is heated by a high efficiency gas boiler and radiant in floor heat, utilizes high quality low e wood/clad windows and the kitchen includes GE Café energy star rated appliances. The stone, stucco and wood exterior blends flawlessly with the large covered deck that faces amazing La Plata mountain views. The home is 3977 Square ft. with 3 bedrooms and 3-1/2 baths. This home won First Place Judges selection overall, and also best kitchen in the 2013 Durango Parade of homes
